Parental Skills Traning
Parental Skills Training (PST)
Each event in a parent‘s life has the power to either transform those parents to be better parents or locked them in a cycle of fear, doubt or pride. If the parents are willing to learn from the past, it can be a teaching moment not just for the parents but also for the children involved. Parents have to deal with their own developmental stages of lives because if they are not met. It will lead to lost of their children and the pain of regrets. Parents cannot give what they have not learned. This is where adequate parent skills training come into play. It will empower parents to take personal responsibility for their actions first before they try to teach it to their children. Nothing is impossible for parents who are willing to try.
Past events that have happened in parent’s life cannot be changed, but they can learn from it. If they do not learn from it then it can become a stumbling block as effective parents tosecure and maintain a healthy family bond. The bond that unites parents is the bond that is going to heal parents. This begins with Parental Skills Training. Parental skills have to be earned and not just a right because parents have children. Both parents play a major role in the developmentof that child, but it only takes one to make a change.
*Heuristic is not allowing one event in a parent live to be the end of all. When a parent past is great than their future, then they will return to their past. Parent Skills Training empowers parents to have a bright future than the darkness of their past.
Some of the bad choices parents makes should not be the sum total of their ability to care. It can be if parent are left without a hope of change or seeing themselves an agent of change for their families. If parents are empowered with the right tools, they are the one who are going to make the necessary changes in the family dynamic.
All parents’ maladaptive behavior or positive behavior in life starts with the choices they have made. Some parent may even proclaim that they did not make a choice. Not making a choice is still a choice. If we are going to change how parents treat their children, we have to change how parents treat themselves first. This start with:
1. Assessment
2. Genogram ( Family History)
3. Johari Window ( Personal Awareness)
4. Erickson Stages of Development
5. Family Workshop to put theories into practice
*Heuristic is enabling a person to discover or to learn something for themselves..
